The north of Scotland and particularly Skye, can be a delight in winter. But we do have short days and many restaurants and cafes will close or shorten their opening hours. Stating in self catering solves the ‘where do we eat’ problem.

The spectacular scenery of course always remains open. But with daylight hours restricted, you might not want to undertake some of the longer walks. That doesn’t mean you can’t get out : but you do need to be selective and even more mindful of conditions than usual.

Eilean Donan Castle is leading the way, opening from 1stvFebruary to 22nd December in 2024 but the general rule for many paid attractions is April to October. More winter visitors would enable longer hours and a key theme of many local community trusts is enabling year round employ, ent rather than seasonal employment.

Keen photographers will find those golden hours take place at a civilised time and at busy places, they won’t be distracted by the hordes.

So please come. Our winter prices are very affordable at as little as £17 per person per night (based on guests for a full week). So bring friends. Have lazy breakfasts, explore, come home and cook together in our well equipped kitchen. And settle down with a log fire to watch TV or films, play games or simply yarn
