Guests sometimes wonder why we have two garden gates and a track running across the front of the house. The route is the old Kirk Road running from Balmacara Square to the church at Kirkton. The right of way still exists and very very occasionally the crofters use it to get cattle to the fields beyond the house (and leave us hoof prints in the grass as cattle aren’t know for going in straight lines when there is nice grass to much).

The path below the house was created when the house was built to provide a diversion and is well used. It’s maintained by the National Trust for Scotland, as are many of the local paths but we like to help out with a bit of vegetation cutting and the odd barrow load of gravel. We invite them to park on out gravel when maintaining the Reraig-Kirkton section.

It great having access to the network of parts across the Loch Alsh peninsula: and when we stay, our dog enjoys a triangle with a high point above the house.
